How long before the status changes?
Most of your application’s life is spent at “pending”. ICA aims to process PR applications within about six months, but in practice many applicants wait six to twelve months, and complex cases longer. Does a long “pending” mean rejection?
No. A long wait is not a bad sign. Longer processing often means a more thorough review, not a negative decision, and many successful applicants waited nine to twelve months before approval. There are no progress updates in between, so silence is normal. The status simply staying at “pending” tells you the case is still being assessed.
Can you contact ICA about your status?
ICA provides little beyond the portal. It will contact you only to request documents or to give the final decision. Chasing for updates does not speed anything up. If your application has been pending beyond twelve months, a single polite email enquiry is reasonable, but premature or repeated follow-ups are discouraged.

What to do while you wait
- Keep your situation stable. Steady employment and clean tax records support your case.
- Watch your email and the portal for any document request, and respond quickly.
- Update ICA of major changes, such as a new passport or a significant change in circumstances.
- Do not submit a duplicate application. It does not help and can complicate your case.
